Department of Transport officals and CIÉ union representatives have to a further round of talks following discussions today at the Labour Relations Commission (LRC) aimed at averting a series of bus and rail strikes due to start next week.
Following the ending of talks both sides have agreed progress was made and that
further negotiations will be held along the lines of a strategy outlined by the LRC chairman Mr Kevin Foley.
The National Bus and Rail Union (NBRU) had said that unless significant progress is made within days it will proceed with a one-day strike planned for Tuesday week.
The action would cause widespread disruption to commuters, with the complete shutdown of Iarnród Éireann, Bus Éireann and Dublin Bus services for the day.
A further series of strikes, culminating in a three-day stoppage, is planned by the NBRU for August and September.
CIÉ unions are unhappy with plans by the Minister for Transport, Mr Brennan, to break up the company and introduce limited competition in certain areas.
However, SIPTU said today's meeting was constructive and that there was potential to reach an agreement on the future of Dublin Bus.
