More of the electorate would prefer to see an alternative government comprising of Fine Gael, Labour and possibly the Green Party rather than the current coalition of Fianna Fail and Progressive Democrats, according to the latest Irish Times/TNS mrbiopinion poll.
A Fine Gael/Labour led alternative was preferred by 36 per cent of those polled while 31 per cent opted for the existing Fianna Fail/PD combination.
On the questions of which political alliance would be better at controlling prices, improving the health services and providing affordable and good quality childcare, an alternative rainbow government has a clear lead over the current Government.
But voters were evenly divided on who would manage the economy best and keep taxes low.
The rainbow alternative coalition was preferred by the majority of younger voters but the inverse was true for over 65s where the majority favoured the FF/PD coalition.
The poll was conducted last Monday and Tuesday among a national quota sample of 1,000 voters at 100 different sampling points throughout all constituencies in the State.
