Gardaí are today trying to establish motives for the murder of two men in separate gangland-style shootings in Dublin over the space of 12 hours.

Trevor Walsh (33), was shot dead shortly after midnight yesterday in Kippure Park in Finglas.

It is believed he was hit by at least four bullets from a handgun in the neck and chest and the gunman fled the scene on a bicycle.

Mr Walsh was on temporary release from prison, where he was serving a three year sentence for possession of ammunition. He had nearly 50 convictions for various offences.

IAnthony Foster (34),  was shot dead at the Cromcastle Court in Coolock on Friday afternoon.

Mr Foster was jailed for six years in 2001 for handling cannabis resin worth £30,000 in April 2000. He was working at that time with drug addicts at the Merchant's Quay rehabilitation project in Dublin.

Gardaí do not believe the two killings were linked.
