Motorcyclist dies in Co Wicklow collision

A man in his early twenties died after his motorcycle was in collision with a car in Co Wicklow yesterday evening.

A man in his early twenties died after his motorcycle was in collision with a car in Co Wicklow yesterday evening.

The incident happened at about 7.40 p.m. in the village of Newtownmountkennedy. The two people travelling in the car were uninjured.

He was the seventh person killed on the roads this weekend. Five people died in two road accidents in Co Kildare, and there was also a road death in Co Cork.

Meanwhile the Garda in Monaghan are continuing their investigations into an alleged hit-and-run incident in which a 19-year-old man was badly injured.

Witnesses reported that the man was struck by a car while he was walking along the main Monaghan road near the Glencarn Hotel at around 2.45 a.m.

His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
