A 24-year-old man died today when his motorbike collided with a car in Co Kerry.

A 24-year-old man died today when his motorbike collided with a car in Co Kerry.

The collision between the bike and a 4x4 vehicle occurred at Lisloose, Tralee, at about 1.15pm.

The motorcyclist was taken by ambulance to Tralee General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the 4x4 was uninjured, a Garda spokesman said.

The scene was technically examined by forensic collision investigators and the road has since re-opened.

A total of 200 people have been killed on the State's roads to date this year, according to the latest Garda statistics. The figure includes 89 drivers and 48 passengers, 41 pedestrians, five cyclists, one motorcycle pillion passenger and 16 motorcyclists, including the man who died today.

AA Roadwatch and the Road Safety Authority have urged motorists to drive with extra care over the coming days as freezing conditions are expected.
