Motorcyclist killed, man drowned in weekend accidents

A man in his early 30s died following a road traffic accident near Buncrana in Co Donegal yesterday.

A man in his early 30s died following a road traffic accident near Buncrana in Co Donegal yesterday.

The accident happened when a trailer being towed by a jeep became unhooked and collided with an oncoming car.

Five other people were injured but none of their injuries are believed to be life threatening. The accident happened at around 6 pm on the main Derry to Buncrana road. Two units of Buncrana fire brigade attended the scene.

Gardaí in Macroom are investigating a fatal accident which occured at Farran Cross, Macroom at 8.10pm yesterday.

Meanwhile, a motorcyclist in his 50s was killed when his motorcycle was involved in a collision with a car near Enniscorthy, Co Wexford, on Sunday night.

The accident happened just after 10pm at Coolycarney, on the Kiltealy to Enniscorthy road. Gardaí named the man yesterday evening as 50-year-old Patrick Kavanagh from Ballycarney, Co. Wexford.

Meanwhile, a 55-year-old Englishman, who was drowned on Sunday while swimming at Lacken Beach in north Mayo, was named yesterday as John Jackson of Wainfleet Road, Skegness, Lincolnshire.
