A motorist was killed last night when his car hit a parked crane and burst in to flames in Co Cork.

A motorist was killed last night when his car hit a parked crane and burst in to flames in Co Cork.

The man (27) died in the crash on the Cork to Mallow road at 10pm. The road at Burnfoot, in Mallow remains closed this morning while forensic investigations continue.

"A car collided with a crane, which was parked at the time of the collision," said a garda spokesman. "The driver of the car, which went on fire after the collision, died at the scene."

The motorist was the second person to be killed in road crashes yesterday.
