AA Roadwatch has warned of difficult driving conditions over the bank holiday, with the prospect of bad to very bad weather conditions. Heavy rain is expected to bring flooding in places.
The AA warned motorists to stay off the roads if severe weather conditions persist.
The ESB said the Christmas storms caused trees to fall and disturbed the roots of many others. A spokesman said the fear is that even moderate gusts of wind could now bring more trees down on to power lines and roads.
Bus Eireann said services today will operate to the normal weekday schedule, but there will be some cancellations of evening services returning to main centres.
City services in Waterford, Cork, Galway and Limerick will end earlier than usual this evening.
Tomorrow Bus Eireann will operate to a Sunday schedule, with some alterations. Normal weekday services, though with a number of alterations, will resume on Friday.
The normal timetable will resume on January 4th on all routes.
A spokesman for Aer Lingus said it will be busy over the coming days.
