The owner of some gardens “of global significance” has died aged 104 in Englandwhile on a trip to see the Chelsea Flower Show.
The owner of the world renowned Mount Congreve gardens and estate in Waterford, Ambrose Congreve CBE died in hospital earlier this week, reportedly of a heart attack.
Ten years ago, he was awarded the Greatest Garden in the World medal by Massachusetts Horticultural Society. His gardens won numerous other awards, including 13 gold medals at Chelsea.
Mr Congreve had been in advanced discussions with the Office of Public Works on a “world-class tourist attraction” at Mount Congreve.
