A Supreme Court judge, Mr Justice Kevin Lynch, has retired. During his career, he investigated the "Kerry Babies" case, heard the Bula mines case which lasted 227 days and, in the historic and controversial case of a brain damaged woman whose family wanted the withdrawal of medical treatment, decided nature should be allowed take its course.
Mr Justice Lynch was born in Dublin in 1928 and was educated at St Mary's College, Rathmines before he qualified from UCD. He was called to the Bar 50 years ago. In 1970 he became a Senior Counsel and in 1984 was made a judge of the High Court. He became a judge of the Supreme Court three years ago.
