GARDAI investigating the murder of a Tralee woman, Ms Margaret O'Sullivan (40), want to interview an elderly man seen near the crime scene on Sunday.

Ms O'Sullivan's body, which had stab wounds to the head and neck, was discovered by her son Eric (12) at about 12.30 p.m. on Monday. The body was in the bedroom of her flat at McCowen's Lane.

Last night Insp Barry O'Rourke, who is leading the investigation, said gardai wanted to speak to a tall, elderly man seen in Castle Street, Tralee, between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Sunday.

It is understood the man is not a suspect but gardai believe he may have important information. Gardai have confirmed Ms O'Sullivan died as a result of wounds to the head and neck inflicted by a sharp instrument, which has yet to be found. They are also awaiting the results of detailed tests to determine the time of Ms O'Sullivan's death and if she had been sexually assaulted.
