A jury in a murder trial was sent to a hotel last night after failing to reach a verdict

A jury in a murder trial was sent to a hotel last night after failing to reach a verdict. The jury at the Central Criminal Court retired at about 3 p.m. yesterday to begin deliberations but returned at 5.10 p.m. after failing to reach a unanimous decision. Mr Justice Carney sent the jury members, accompanied by three gardai, to a hotel for the night. They are due to return at 10.30 a.m. today.

Mr David McDonagh (44), of St Joseph's Park, Dunsink, Finglas, Dublin, has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Mr Timothy Joyce (46), of Lydd Caravan Site, Kent, on November 9th, 1996, in Finglas.
