The widow of a journalist murdered by loyalist paramilitaries tonight pleaded with terror groupings not to carry out revenge attacks.

Sunday Worldreporter Mr Martin O'Hagan was gunned down as he walked home with his wife Marie in Lurgan, Co Armagh a week ago.

But amid speculation that dissident republicans are planning a retaliation strike against a loyalist target, Mrs O'Hagan called for an end to all killings in the North.

"No one, nor any organisation, must take it upon themselves to kill in our, or more importantly, my late husband's name," she said in a statement.

"He died because he repudiated and exposed terrorism, from whatever quarter."

The 51-year-old investigative reporter's murder was claimed by the Red Hand Defenders, although the RUC believe this is a cover name for the LVF.

It is believed the weapon used in the shooting had been used in a previous LVF murder.
