The parents of murdered Co Armagh man Paul Quinn met with Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny tonight as part of their ongoing campaign for justice.

Stephen and Briege Quinn spoke to the opposition TD about the ongoing cross-border police investigation into the killing and urged him to keep the issue alive in the Dail.

Mr Quinn, 21, was beaten to death after being lured to a remote farm building in Co Monaghan last October.

His family claim his was killed by the IRA after he fell out with one of its members.

They have been angered by claims from senior Sinn Fein figures that the murder was instead linked to fuel smuggling.

Chair of the Quinn Support Group, Jim McAllister described tonight's meeting with Mr Kenny, which he also attended, as "very worthwhile".

"Mr Kenny said he would raise it in the house and is prepared to keep the issue alive and help us get a result," he said.

"We told him we were happy with the way the investigation was progressing and he seemed confident that the Garda were doing their best to find those responsible."

The British and Irish governments have stated their belief that Mr Quinn was not a criminal.

While the Independent Monitoring Commission has indicated that former or current members of the Provisionals were involved in the brutal beating.

PSNI officers are assisting the Garda in a joint operation to find the killers.

Meanwhile, the murder is set to be debated at the Northern Ireland Assembly, it was revealed today.

SDLP MLA Dominic Bradley has submitted a motion for consideration by the Assembly and hopes it will be heard before the end of the month.

"It is time to move beyond ritual condemnations and take a stand for a lawful society," he said.

"Unfortunately this murder investigation has been distorted from the very beginning by political intervention."
