A Pakistan-based guerrilla group has claimed responsibility for an attack on an Indian military air base in Kashmir which left six people dead.
The Lashkar-e-Taiba group, whose ‘suicide fighters’ attacked Quil airport in the Avantipura area of southern Kashmir said all the victims were Indian military personnel.
The Indian authorities said those killed included four guerrillas, an Indian air force employee and a civilian.
Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee said he holds the Pakistani authorities responsible for cross-border terrorism in Kashmir and has said peace talks between the two countries were now ‘pointless.’
Tensions between the two nuclear rivals have been on the rise since a suicide attack on the Jammu and Kashmir parliament killed 38 people on October 1st.
