Berlin - Germany is ready to deliver North Korea 5,000 tonnes of beef culled because of BSE. Government spokesman Mr Uwe-Karsten Heye said that after a first shipment of 5,000 tonnes of beef, Berlin would consider sending North Korea - which faces severe food shortages - up to 30,000 tonnes.
Germany announced in February that it would take part in an EU purchase-for-slaughter programme and would cull up to 400,000 cattle crowding the stalls since the BSE crisis sent beef sales down by more than half.
