NATO will continue to step up security on the Macedonian border with
Kosovo and will not allow ethnic Albanian insurgents to destabilise the Balkan nation, NATO Secretary General, Lord Robertson said today.

Speaking at a conference in Rome, Mr Robertson said NATO troops were patrolling the Kosovo side of the border in a bid to stop rebels and arms entering Macedonia.
"These are important steps and they will be effective", he said. "We will continue to isolate these groups, diplomatically and militarily until they understand that their insurgency cannot and will not succeed".
"My message to these extremists and to anyone who supports them is simple and clear you will be denounced by NATO. The alliance did not come to Kosovo to support any individual ethnic group, be they Albanian, Serb, or any other".
