Snead launched the 65th US Masters today by hitting ceremonial shots off the first tee at Augusta National Golf Club.

Nelson hit first on a cool, overcast morning and lofted his drive right of the fairway. Snead's ball went straight up the middle.

The 89-year-old Nelson has said this will be his last year as an honorary starter. He has played the role since 1981.

Nelson first competed in the Masters in 1935, the second year of the event.

Snead (88) joined Nelson and the late Gene Sarazen as an honorary starter in 1984.

Snead, a three-times Masters champion, is expected to return next year to hit the first ball.
