Police fired on stone-throwing protesters in the Nepali resort town of Pokhara today and wounded two people.
The shooting, only kilometres from where King Gyanendra was on holiday, was latest by security forces since pro-democracy protests began Thursday to pressure the king to relinquish his control over this Himalayan nation.
Some 10,000 people were marching through the centre of Pokhara when some of them began throwing stones at police, who responded first with tear gas and rubber bullets and then with gunfire when the protests refused to disperse.
Pokhara, about 200 kilometres west of Kathmandu, is a resort town popular with foreign tourists. But in recent days, it has been rocked by protests against the king, who seized control over the government last year, saying he needed the authority to crush a communist rebellion that has left nearly 13,000 dead since it began a decade ago.
Three protesters have been shot and killed during the six days of demonstrations, including one on Saturday in Pokhara.
Mr Gyanendra has been on holiday in the lakeside town for more than a month, even as the protests have spread from Nepal's major cities to its far-flung towns.
