Gardaí have issued a new appeal for information in their investigation into the death of Derek O'Toole who was struck by a car driven by an off-duty garda in west Dublin last weekend.
The 24-year-old from Clondalkin, is thought to have been lying on the ground when he was hit by the car in Lucan village in the early hours of last Sunday morning.
The garda driving the car was arrested and breathalysed but found to be driving within the legal alcohol limit.
Mr O'Toole's friends and family insist he was not drunk at the time of his death and angrily rejected reports he was known to gardai.
Gardaí last night issued a statement seeking information from anyone in the Lucan village and Sarsfield Park area between 4.30 a.m. and 5.30 a.m. last Sunday who has not yet been interviewed.
A Garda spokeswoman said: "Gardai are particularly anxious to speak with the driver / occupants of a car which was turning at the entrance to Sarsfield Park and heading towards Lucan Village at 4.50a.m. approximately."
Anyone with information should contact Lucan Garda Station at 01 666 7300.
