The Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation has announced a scheme to address the imbalance in sports grant allocations between various counties.
Dr McDaid said a minimum of £200,000 in sports grant allocations would be available for each county this year, but he stressed that the funding would not be automatic. The projects would have to "measure up to assessment on their merits".
It was inevitable that counties with big urban centres and larger populations would have more projects. "Other counties then have felt aggrieved at the relatively smaller share allocated to them."
