A new Bill aimed at combating copyright "piracy" will be published in the coming weeks, the junior Minister with responsibility for consumer affairs, Mr Tom Kitt TD, said yesterday.
Speaking at an anti-counterfeiting conference in Dublin, he said the Copyright and Related Rights Bill will aim to achieve "a thorough modernisation of Irish copyright law in the interest of copyright rights-owners and the consumers of copyright material alike".
Mr Kitt also praised the Garda and customs officers for the notable successes in combating counterfeiting operations.
According to the Counterfeiting Intelligence Bureau, the practice costs the EU 100,000 jobs a year.
