The newly appointed caretaker Bishop of Ferns, Dr Eamon Walsh, has announced an independent inquiry into cases of suspected child sexual abuse.
Speaking at his first news conference since he replaced Dr Brendan Comiskey, Bishop Walsh said he would fully cooperate with an inquiry into the church’s handling of abuse by priests in his diocese.
He also acknowledged that sexual abuse had been committed by priests in the Ferns diocese, and apologised to the victims.
