A new-born baby boy has been found abandoned in a bag on a Dublin street.

A new-born baby boy has been found abandoned in a bag on a Dublin street.

The baby, who has been taken to the Coombe Hospital where he is said to be in good health, was found by passers-by at 12.30 p.m. on Clanbrassil Street.

Gardaí at Kevin Street are this evening investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery.

A Garda spokesman said the newborn baby was found in a bag.

Gardaí are appealing for the mother of the child to make contact with them as there may be concerns for her health.

Gardaí said the mother will be treated with "the utmost compassion and sensitivity".
