Ireland's newest brewery opened in Kinsale last weekend amid commemorations of the battle 400 years ago that changed the course of Irish history. The Kinsale Brewing Company, owned by Cork brothers Albert and Barry Kiely, will offer Kinsale Irish Lager as its flagship brand. The beer will be produced at the site of the old Landers Brewery in Kinsale, which operated in the town for more than 200 years. Initial reaction in America to the new beer has been positive. The plan is to win market share both at home and abroad for the naturally matured product.
Spanish flamenco dancers, who were in Kinsale for the commemoration, added an exotic flair to the launch. However, it is not known if Prince Andrew, the Duke of York who was also present, had time to imbibe. His security was positively presidential, and no eventuality was overlooked.
