The number of new cars registered in the State fell by some 12.8 per cent last month compared to October last year, new figures show.
Vehicle licensing figures published by the Central Statistics Office today reveal there were 5,479 new private cars licensed last month, compared with 6,286 in October 2005.
Toyota accounts for the highest number of new private cars licensed last month (766), followed by Volkswagen (645), Ford (620), Opel (481) and Nissan (315).
In the first 10 months of this year, there were 168,872 new cars licensed, an increase of 5.3 per cent on the same period last year.
First licensing of second-hand private cars rose by 1,239 (36 per cent) on the same month last year and by 14,529 (46.6 per cent) in the year to date.
The total number of vehicles licensed in the 10 months to October was 294,036, an increase of 13.3 per cent on last year.
