The Government has named the 23 Garda officers that have been promoted to the rank of superintendent.
Three are in the Taoiseach's constituency of Mayo, four have been appointed to Garda Headquarters and the rest will be stationed around the country.
The gardaì who will be based in Mayo are; John J Keane in Castlebar, Colm Fox in Swinford and Aidan Foley in Westport.
Among those assigned to Garda headquarters are Det Supt Andrew Watters in liaison and protection, Det Supt Stephen Courage will join the Garda National Drugs Unit, Supt Mary Delmar joins the communications centre and Det Supt John Nolan has been assigned to the Technical Bureau.
The 23 appointments are to replace retiring senior personnel, many of whom have retired as a result of changes to the public sector pension regime.
Earlier this week the Cabinet approved the appointment of 33 senior officers, 23 superintendents, two assistant-commissioners and eight chief superintendents to fill some senior vacancies in the force.
The names of the assistant commissioners and chief superintendents have yet to be announced.
Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan said last week 51 officers was the minimum required to replace those who have retired.
The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors (AGSI) said the number of new appointments was inadequate and that the force would suffer as a result.
