Florida - An animal rights group yesterday urged US federal officials to begin a new inquiry into the deaths of 30 animals at Disney's Animal Kingdom.

In a letter to the US Department of Agriculture, the Animal Rights Foundation's lawyer described an investigation into the deaths as a whitewash.

Twenty-nine animals, including cheetah cubs, otters and a rhinoceros, died at or en route to the park between September and April. The causes ranged from maternal neglect to fights among animals.
