New jobs for Donegal expected

A significant jobs announcement for Donegal is expected today when the Tanaiste visits the county

A significant jobs announcement for Donegal is expected today when the Tanaiste visits the county. Some 150 jobs are to be created in an IDA-backed call-centre project, and Ms Harney is also expected to announce that negotiations are at a final stage on two other projects with foreign-based companies, which could result in a further 300 jobs.

US-based health insurance company PacifiCare is to open the call centre in Letterkenny, directly creating 150 jobs. Ms Harney is also expected to give details of 60 new jobs in Enterprise Ireland-backed projects around the county.

Sixteen additional jobs will be created in an information technology centre. Negotiations are said to be in the final stages with two other foreign-based companies, one of which may be based at a former Fruit of the Loom plant.

Later today, Ms Harney will attend a function at the City of Derry airport to announce a daily service between Derry and London Stansted.
