The Government has accepted the nomination by North Korea of its new ambassador to Ireland, writes Deaglán de Bréadún, Political Correspondent.

The representative of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Mr Hyon Hak-bong, will be a nonresident ambassador, based in London. Diplomatic relations with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea were established in 2003.

The appointment has been made as North Korea enters a period of official mourning following the sudden death last weekend of the country’s leader, Kim Jong-il.
