The driver of Serbia's new secret police chief was lightly injured today when a masked gunman opened fire on his official vehicle, Serbian RTS television has reported.
The chief of the secret police, Mr Goran Petrovic, was in an official meeting with Serbian Prime Minister, Mr Zoran Djindjic, and Serbian Interior Minister, Mr Dusan Mihajlovic, at the time of the attack.
Mr Petrovic was appointed to his post on Thursday, following the resignation earlier in the day of Mr Rade Markovic, an ally of former Yugoslav president Mr Slobodan Milosevic.
The station said an unidentified person dressed in black and wearing a black mask approached the car, opened a door and fired at the driver, who was only identified as "Mr. Jaksic".
The report said the driver was hospitalised.
