Homeless men in Galway will be accommodated in a modern new shelter, which replaces the prefabricated facility they have occupied for the past 15 years, from the end of this month.
Long-term residents of the shelter at the Fairgreen have been temporarily moved to other suitable accommodation.
The new shelter, on an adjoining site, will accommodate 24 people. The residents will have single rooms as well as access to a modern restaurant in the two-storey building.
Funding for the shelter was provided by the Department of Education and Galway Corporation in conjunction with the Galway Voluntary Social Services, which operates the refuge.
