The litter monitoring body TES Consulting Engineers today launched a website aimed at providing information on the litter monitoring system and advice for litter management.
The site was opened by the Minister for State at the Department of the Environment and Local Government Mr Dan Wallace.
He said the Litter Pollution Monitoring System will assist local authorities in managing litter pollution.
"The facility will allow local authorities to share information with each other, especially in relation to good litter prevention and control practices," Mr Wallace said.
The TES Consulting Engineerssite contains information on waste management planning; environmental licensing/environmental impact assessment; waste management facilities and geology and hydrogeology.
The site gives an outline of the Litter Pollution Monitoring System with information updates, best practice guides and monitoring manual.
It also provides a list of links to local authorities, environmental agencies, government and environmental departments and related bodies/organisations.
Local authorities are to carry out benchmark surveys on the litter pollution in their areas over the coming months. The surveys will be assessed and collated by TES. The results are expected to be submitted to the Department Environment and Local Government by the year's end.
TES was appointed in 1996 to develop a National Monitoring System.
