Newcastle United completed a historic Champions League recovery by qualifying for the second group phase with a dramatic 3-2 victory at Feyenoord tonight.
Welsh striker Craig Bellamy scored the decisive goal, his second of the night, in stoppage time to clinch second place for Newcastle in Group E after Dynamo Kiev lost 2-1 at home to group winners Juventus.
Newcastle became the first side ever to qualify from the first group stage of the Champions League having lost their opening three matches.
Bellamy had earlier put Bobby Robson's side in front and Hugo Viana doubled the advantage before goals by Feyenoord pair Mariano Bombarda and Anthony Lurling levelled the scores on a night of high drama in the De Kuip stadium.
Meanwhile, Manchester United ensured they finished top of Group F with a 2-0 home win over second-placed Bayer Leverkusen at Old Trafford.
Argentine midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron, outstanding all night, put United in front after 42 minutes, teeing the ball up on the edge of the area and firing a crisp low volley into the corner of the net.
Ruud Van Nistelrooy made it 2-0 in the 69th minute when he swept into an empty net from close range to seal a win that boosted United's points tally to 15.
Earlier, Leverkusen's Jan Simik blazed over the bar from the penalty spot after United keeper Ricardo had brought down Thomas Brdaric as he bore down on goal.
