A Northern Ireland pharmaceutical company today announced an investment of over £80 million that could create almost 300 jobs.
Norbrook makes veterinary pharmaceutical products at its Newry, Co Down, plant and exports them worldwide.
The company said the investment could create up to 293 new jobs - including research posts. The £83 million investment will allow it to develop a number of veterinary products for entry into the pet medicine market.
The company also plans to increase its manufacture of pharmaceutical ingredients and develop new manufacturing and formulation methods.
The jobs boost was announced as nearly 1,000 workers at Co Derry based US technology company Seagate were being told their redundancy terms following the announcement yesterday that their plant is closing next summer. The work is being transferred to Malaysia.
Norbrook employs 1,500 people at Newry and across the Border in Monaghan.
