A Northern Ireland school is to commission a work of art in memorial to four students killed in a car crash in Northern Ireland, it emerged today.
Principal of Lisburn Institute of Further and Higher Education Alister McReynolds pledged to find an artist to create a fitting tribute.
"We want a significant piece of art suitable to their memory which would be on permanent display at the college," he said.
As the shock of yesterday's tragedy reverberated throughout the college, the four young victims were named by police.
They were Ian Currie (18) of Bramblewood Crescent, and Philip McMurray (19) of Grove Meadows, both in Banbridge, Co Down, Joseph McDonald (19) of Lakeglen Drive in Belfast, and Graeme Waring (17) of Parkland Avenue, Lisburn, Co Antrim.
The driver, aged 22, a student at the college, remains in a stable condition in hospital.
They were driving along a straight stretch of road on the three miles from Ligoniel yesterday when their white Corsa careered off, hit a tree and overturned into a field.
As they arrived at the college, tearful classmates laid flowers outside the gates while others went to the crash site to pay their respects.
Mr McReynolds said all four teenagers were hoping to go to university.
"They were all good, hardworking students, courteous and polite. They were on the cusp of going to university."
