A woman who gardaí believed attempted to avoid deportation by claiming she was somebody else was given a six-month jail sentence for not having identity papers.
Tayo Emanuale (23), from Nigeria, insisted that a woman with a similar name was the person gardaí were looking for to deport when Emanuale was arrested on April 15th this year for not having identity documents.
Dublin District Court heard that when Emanuale later produced a birth certificate with a different birth date to the woman gardaí were seeking, it turned out to be fake.
Garda Angela Twyford said that when she was first spoken to, Emanuale gave a date of birth in 1983, but after she arrived in the Garda station, she gave a date in 1982.
When she provided a birth certificate, it was checked out by the Nigerian embassy but proved to be false.
