Washington - Investigators investigating the mid-air explosion of TWA flight 800 found no proof that criminal activity was behind the disaster that claimed 230 lives in July 1996, the US National Transportation Safety Board chief said yesterday.
They "examined every piece of wreckage for any physical evidence that the crash of flight 800 could have been caused by a bomb or a missile", said the NTSB chairman, Mr Jim Hall. "Had we found such evidence, we would have immediately referred the matter back to the appropriate law enforcement authorities for their action."
But "let me state unequivocally, the NTSB found no such evidence", he added at the start of public hearings in Washington on the release of the final NTSB report.
