The Southern Health Board said last night there had not been an outbreak of salmonella in Cork, despite the death of an elderly woman.
Mrs Mary Ambrose had apparently eaten sausages which led to her death from a virulent form of salmonella last Thursday. She cooked the sausages in her home at Glantane in north Cork before becoming violently ill.
But last night a spokesperson for the Southern Health Board said there had not been an outbreak of salmonella in Cork and that the public should not be alarmed.
