Finnish mobile telephone maker Nokia remains the world's leading brand, according to figures published today.
It had second-quarter sales of 31.2 million units and a market share of 34.8 per cent, data published by the Gartner Group said.
US maker Motorola retained its grip on second place with 13.3 million units sold in the three-month period and a market share of 14.8 per cent.
German industrial giant Siemens has slipped behind Ericsson of Sweden to number four among mobile phone manufacturers, a spokesman for the research institute said.
In the three months from April to June, Ericsson sold 7.4 million mobile telephones worldwide, for a market share of 8.3 per cent. Siemens sold just over 7 million handsets for 7.9 per cent of the global market.
South Korean giant Samsung Electronics was fifth with sales of 6.2 million units, or a 6.9-per cent market share.
About 24 million mobile telephones were sold by other makers combined - for a second-quarter grand total of 89.7 million units, according to the research group's figures.
