CARE FOR CLARE, the group objecting to controversial plans by Syntex Ireland to build a hazardous waste incinerator at its pharmaceutical plant in Clarecastle, has called on the Minister for Health, Mr Noonan, to halt the project, writes Frank McDonald, Environment Correspondent.

"The only way the Minister can do his job properly to protect and promote good health in the population is by ensuring that this incinerator is cancelled in favour of a better alternative", the group said.

"How can he allow incineration which emits cancer causing dioxins to be imposed on any community? If incineration was not good enough for Dublin, it's certainly not good enough for Clare", a spokeswoman said, referring to the refusal of a plan for Ringsend.
