Officers of the Police Service of Northern Ireland will reveal their changed look on April 5th when they wear the new uniform and badge for the first time.
All buildings, vehicles and other property will display the new service badge, which was unanimously agreed by the Policing Board of Northern Ireland last month.
The badge, which replaces the Crown and Harp of the RUC, contains the six symbols surrounded by a sunburst which represents a new dawn for the service.
All of the symbols are given equal prominence and include the scales of justice, a harp, a torch, an olive branch, a shamrock and a crown. The centrepiece houses the cross of Saint Patrick.
A spokesman for the Police Federation, which represents rank-and-file members, said they had no problem with the new badge.
"We didn't want to lose the old one but we are perfectly happy with the new badge. It celebrates our Irish and British traditions," he said.
