The worst of the wintry weather is likely to transfer to the north-west of the country, Met Eireann said last night.
The forecast is for showers of hail, sleet or snow affecting Ulster, northern parts of Connacht and coastal regions of Leinster.
The spokesman said other places will be mainly dry and fairly bright. Northerly winds will be strongest in the east and south. Temperatures will be slightly higher than yesterday.
Further wintry showers are predicted tonight in the north and north-west, perhaps with some local snowfall. Otherwise it will be dry with clear spells and a sharp to severe ground frost will set in soon after dark. Some freezing fog is likely later.
