Shares in Northern Rock fell more than 15 per cent in early trade today to touch a historic low of 112 pence as bids for the UK bank failed to materialise.
Earlier this morning, the bank's volatile shares were down 4.6 per cent at 126 pence, compared to a 0.9 per cent rise in the FTSE all-share index.
The bank, which was forced to tap emergency funds at the Bank of England last month, has lost more than 80 per cent of its value in the past month.
