The supply of grain is expected to fall short of global demand at the end of 2002, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) reported today.
The FAO predicted that grain output would come to 1.880 billion tonnes this year against demand estimated at 1.935 billion tonnes, representing an eight percent fall on last year's harvest.
But the agency found that according to its estimates, world trade in grain should reach 236 million tonnes in 2001-2002, an increase of two million tonnes over the previous harvest period.
