NTL has refused to comment on reports that it is to axe up to 6,000 jobs.
According to a number of weekend reports, the cable firm, which recently bought Telewest for $6 billion, is expected to confirm the redundancies on Tuesday when it announces its first-quarter results.
The Mail on Sundaysaid NTL would cut up to 6,000 jobs, or about a third of its workforce, adding that most of the enlarged company's call centre operations would be outsourced, with some work going to India. Marketing jobs will also go.
The Independent on Sundayreported 4,000 jobs would go.
