Worth - German authorities were yesterday preparing to dispatch a rail convoy of radioactive waste to a recycling centre in France, despite protest actions by hundreds of antinuclear demonstrators. The convoy was to be loaded with nuclear waste from three power plants throughout the country. It was due to set out yesterday from the south-west German city of Worth across the border to France. Once in France, the five-car freight train was due to begin the trip to the Cogema nuclear recycling plant at La Hague on France's north-western coast today.
France returned a consignment of recycled waste to Germany last month despite violent protests that included demonstrators chaining themselves to train tracks.
