An Irish-born elderly nun was in hospital in Britain last night after a young mugger subjected her to what police described as an "appalling and unimaginable attack". Sister Marie Leahy (79) was left with a shattered hip, cracked ribs, and facial and abdominal injuries after she was assaulted on a parish visit in Stourbridge, West Midlands. Her assailant made off with a handbag containing credit cards, a cheque book and £40.The attack happened in Ballarat Walk, near Stourbridge town centre, as Sister Leahy, a member of the Sisters Of Charity of St Paul, was visiting a homebound parishioner.The former school headmistress was in a "satisfactory" condition at Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley.
