It seems likely that theChief Executive of the Football Association of Ireland, Bernard O’Byrne, will retire after a lengthy meeting at the headquarters of the FAI in Merrion Square today.
His resignation was being sought following an internal report which claimed that he had misused a company credit card several times during his four-an-a-half years in office.
An FAI statement has been released which revealed that O'Byrne neither resigned nor was fired but that O’Byrne, having sought legal advice, asked the Association to meet with him over the next few days to discuss a confidential voluntary retirement package.
The Board discussed the matter at some length and agreed by an overwhelming majority to authorise the negotiation of such a package.
