ON Thursday evening, there was a private view of artist Tony O'Malley's exhibition, Recent Work, at the Taylor Galleries in Kildare Street. The 58 pieces of work in the show, which runs until April 24th, include several inspired by the pond in the O'Malley's garden. The meditative quality of the exhibition is reflected in the paintings' titles: Work Table and Silence; Wind Harp; Sea Dirge; and Wind and Pond.
Unlike many such events, no-one was required to do the opening night honours. "Tony's shows always get packed with so many people on the first night that there would just be no room for a podium," reported Patrick Taylor of the gallery: every gallery owner's dream scenario.
Tony himself was there with his wife, the painter Jane O'Malley, having travelled from their home in Callan, Co Kilkenny. Other members of the O'Malley family clan who attended were Tony's cousins, Gerry and Dermot O'Malley. Also invited were painter George Vaughan; poet Brian Lynch; composers Barry Guy and Maya Homburger; and writer Fr Pat O'Brien.
